Miranda Molina - The Orchestra: An Introduction to the World of Classical Music

The Orchestra: An Introduction to the World of Classical Music by Alan Blackwood gives a broad description of the modern orchestral setting. It starts with a brief history of the orchestra and how it began, then works its way through all the four main sections of the orchestra, specifics on how the instrument classes are played, and then gives a few examples of instruments from that section. After that, it describes some specific instruments from the orchestra setting, such as harp, trombone, and oboe. This is a useful book for young learners for teaching them about the makeup of an orchestra. The author provided very informative and relevant photos on every page but also wrote with a lot of details about each section of the orchestra and its history. This makes it a great book for not only learns that are decent readers but also for visual learned. - Miranda Molina
