Hip Cat by Jonathon London is a book about a cat trying to get a job by paying saxophone. He tries and tries, but it is difficult for him. So he plays in the street and has to get a part time job so he can eat. Then someone hears him playing and singing, and hires him, and everyone loves him. The words have a lot of consonant sounds that are hard to say at first, so it helps kids articulate. It also teaches how scatting and jazz are connected by using words like oobie doo, and writing them so they speak with off beat rhythms.
