“Squeak, Rumble, Whomp! Whomp! Whomp!” by Wynton Marsalis is
a children’s book that takes kids on an onomatopoeia journey through the world,
specifically the world of music. The book starts out with a story of a boy is
examines the sounds of his world. It first starts with sounds around his house,
and then ventures into sounds coming from his musical family. Eventually, the
sound takes the boy to Preservation Hall in New Orleans, where he is exposed to
the sounds of the jazz band. I think this can hold literary relevancy because it
shows children the connection in sounds from the closing of a door to the high
notes of a trumpet.
