The book starts with describing the few years before Beethoven’s birth, explaining the political and social prevalences at the time and the major composers before him. It then goes on to inform the reader about the major moments in Beethoven’s life in great detail, decade by decade. This is an excellent book to inform young readers about such an important composer of the Common Practice Period in musical history and who is most likely someone they have heard a few works by. The bibliography is also helpful because it includes paintings and illustrations of the composer throughout his life and contains several excerpts of his works.
