Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo
John Lithgow
Illustrated by Leeza Hernandez
This book is a story about a young boy who listens to a
concert next to a zoo. We follow him as a concert starts near a zoo, and then
the animals of the zoo come and take the instruments of the performers and
start playing their own concert. This piece is written in iambic pentameter,
and is a good way to teach a basic concept of rhythm to a student. This book is
a light-hearted story, with beautiful illustrations, and involves music and
teaches basic concert etiquette. We learn at the end of the story that the main
character was asleep the whole time, and we learn that if you fall asleep at a
concert the animals will wake up and play their own concert!
