“Old Mac Noah Had an Ark” by Sally Lloyd-Jones, is a
children’s picture book about the Biblical story of Noah’s Ark. It contains
many attractive images that capture a child’s imagination, and includes many onomatopoeias
for the featured animals. Although this is not an explicit music book, I found
that this book still holds relevancy to music education because of the
association between the onomatopoeias (sounds), images of animals (pictures),
and words (text). This tri-partite learning experience can greatly enhance the
connections that young children make and they will able to make broader, more insightful
connections about their world. Secondly appealing is the illustration
technique. Children love great illustrations, so they will get kids hooked on
this book.
