Talking Drums of Africa written by Christine Price offers insight of the different types of drums and their meaning in African Music. Understanding how different cultures relate to music is incredibly important when learning about music. African music uses talking drums during different ceremonies whether they be religious or for pure entertainment. Illustrations directly correlate with the descriptions of each drum which enhances the readers knowledge on the instrument. The author also made the choice to add what part of Africa each drum is from. I would use this book with a middle school general music class during a world music unit focusing on music from Africa.
