To Go Singing Throughout the World by Deborah Kogan Ray
This
children’s book tells the story of the childhood of Pablo Neruda. As a young
boy, Pablo was very aware of the presence of nature. Sometimes it was lightning
and sometimes it was the forest, but even when he was alone, he wasn’t. Even
the indigenous languages of his surrounding town sounded like music to him. As
a child he was very shy, but when he grew up he met a mentor who encourage him
to let out all the beautiful words in his head, and poetry was a form of
music for Pablo and allowed him to leave his town and get a scholarship to
write poetry. This is a wonderful book for children because it inspires
children to listen to what music surrounds their own world.
