Music Class Today
Music Class Today, is a phenomenal picture book written by David Weinstone. The book depicts many activities that the children participate in during their class period, such as singing songs, playing egg shakers, scarves, other instruments, and even dancing! The teacher encourages everyone to join and participate in the music making and game playing. However, one little boy is a bit shy. He loves music but he just wants to sit and watch a while. The teacher is always kind and assures the little boy not to worry, he can join when he is ready and feels comfortable. It is clear that the teacher values a safe and inclusive environment in his classroom. In the end, the little boy gets so excited that he just can’t contain himself, that he must join the group, and can’t wait until next music class. Music Class Today is not just a picture book, but also a song book where an instructor may sing to his/her students. The front of the book includes a chord chart that may be used for accompaniment.
