Ian Marcusiu: Benny Goodman & Teddy Wilson

Benny Goodman & Teddy Wilson was written by Lesa Cline-Ransome. This short story is about the early lives of Benny Goodman and Teddy Wilson. The book begins with the different music that they grew up listening to and performing and their different musical paths. Eventually in the story the two meet up and their musical careers combine to form the Benny Goodman trio, which went on to achieve great success. This book is good for a middle school level music classroom setting or an elementary level that doesn't necessarily have to be in a musical setting. The book teaches you about the different instruments in a jazz band and uses onomatopoeias effectively to help describe the different instrument sounds. This is a great book for teaching about early jazz and a different style of music that most young children probably aren't too familiar with.
