Max Pankau - Ray Charles I Was Born With Music Inside Me

Ray Charles
I Was Born With Music Inside Me
by Carin T. Ford
A well-written biography that offers many intimate (some adult-themed) details of Ray Charles' life, this book will engage children from ages 10 and up who want to get an inside look on the musician's ascent to prowess and fame. It will offer much encouragement to children with disabilities (especially the sight-impaired), as the author makes no small matter of Ray Charles' dogged determination to be successful and independent as a blind man in a sighted person's world. The author also stresses Charles' admirable work ethic and pattern of learning from failures in order to become more successful. The details about drug use in Charles' life will serve as a warning to young readers. The author brings up his drug use several times (as it was a big part of Charles' life), but stresses that he expressed much regret and advised young people to stay away from using them.
