Ian Marcusiu: A Summertime Song
A Summertime Song was written and illustrated by Irene Haas. One night, when a frog jumped into Lucy's room with a birthday invitation and a magic party hat, Lucy was in for a great adventure. She travels with Frog to Owl's party all while being introduced to Frog's friends on the way. Owl is elated to see everyone there to celebrate his birthday and all of his friends having a great time together singing and dancing. On Lucy's way to the party she finds a doll that happened to be the doll that her grandmother had been longing to see again. When Lucy's grandma saw Lucy had found the doll she was so happy she began to sing, and Lucy embraced her grandmother and joined in. Throughout the story music is used as a symbol of positivity and joy whether it was the animal friends singing "Happy Birthday" to Owl while having a delightful time together or Lucy's grandma celebrating the return of her misplaced doll by expressing her jubilance through music. This story shows how music can bring people together and create joy in their lives.
