Violet's Music, written by Angela Johnson and illustrated by Laura Huliska-Beith, is a book that takes you through Violet's life until about 10 years old. Her journey begins in a hospital where she plays with a rattle and can't get music out of her head. As she grows up, her love for music grows stronger, but she struggles to find people that are like her: people that enjoy and want to make music. The reader starts feeling bad for violet, but at the end of the book she finds people to make music! The illustrations complement the book very well, which could be important for kids who are staring to read. This book could be introduced to 4th or 5th graders that are looking to start orchestra or band.
