Farmyard Beat by Lindsey Graig, illustrated by Marc Brown is a good book that could enhance students literacy skills, while incorporating music too! The book starts off with chicks not being able to sleep because "they have that beat"! This wakes up other animals in the farm and they all join in. This children's book is great because it is colorful and is written with a lot of rhymes. Another thing that is good about this book is that it is very repetitive. This book also lends itself really well to multi-modal teaching. When learning to read, repetition is really important! I would incorporate this book in a General Music classroom for grade levels 1st to 3rd.
