Charlie Parker played Bebop, by Chris Raschka, is a book full of interesting illustrations. The book simply introduces the reader to this historical figure in the history of jazz. The book is filled with a bunch of onomatopoeias. I don't know if you would introduce that concept to young readers, but it wouldn't hurt. This book could be introduced at a couple of times during the school year: African American History Month, Jazz History Month, or during a history or music unit! The book's ultimate goal is to teach children who Charlie Parker was and that bebop has to do something with rhythm, surprise, and humor.
