Angela Kucharski- “Catfish Kate and the Sweet Swamp Band”

“Catfish Kate and the Sweet Swamp Band” is by Sarah Weeks. The plot starts off with the catfish strumming a guitar and making a melody. Then a newt with a flute came along and started playing along. Next a snail came a rattled her tail and a Alligator with a saxophone begins to play with everyone. Lastly, a mosquito flies in to play violin and a spider spins its web down to spin some tables. But then trouble arises when the skunks don't want them to play there loud music. Everyone gets into a fight until it is resolved when the band gives the skunks ear plugs. This book is really good for teaching kids about different instruments. It goes through each instrument and says what kind of noise it makes which can give kids a concept of each instrument. Also it shows the main character just creating a tune which can teach kids that making up and performing there own music is fun! This is something that isn't taught enough in school, so its awesome to see this book incorporate that.
