“Drum Beat in our Feet” is by Patricia Keeler and Julio Leitao. This book starts with kids from all different areas of the city coming together and starting to learn about African dancing. Then one boy shows the way he was taught with the music and they start practicing. After they all practice and have fun learning together. They start to get ready in the traditional outfits for the dance. The music starts and they all run on stage to perform the dance and the audience has a super positive reaction. This book is very cool because it is trying to educate kids on one genre of music and dancing in particular. This book can teach kids about rhythm in the sense of combining music to dancing which is what the characters had to learn how to do. Also off to the side of each page it has a more historic description of the origins, music, and development of this style of music throughout the years.
