1980s Pop by Bob Brunning
1980s Pop gives an artist by artist look at the 1980s pop scene. In the brief introduction the book goes over what brought about this new genre of music and why it was so different from the music that came before and after it. It then goes through and each artist that the book covers has a full two pages of information and pictures about them. Usually it covers the formation of the group or the start of someone’s career, high/low points as well as accomplishments, and any conclusion material if there’s anything interesting. This could be really useful in a music appreciation class or a class unit looking at the music of the 1980s because it gives a pretty solid explanation of all the main artists, and doesn’t use jargon that someone not “trained” in music wouldn’t understand, which makes it really accessible.
