It begins with how he was brought up as a Jewish boy who was seemingly destined to work as a shop clerk or a factory worker in his town. He took an interesting in drawing and painting but his family shunned him because they believed making image was a sin. But Marc kept working on his art, went to art school, and eventually travelled to Paris to explore the art world. As Marc grew up, the story mentions that he needed to stop painting momentarily in order to support his family. Although, he eventually found success as his paintings grew more popular and sold for large amounts of money. This story promotes creativity, exploration, and experimentation. It also shows that taking risks is beneficial as long as people believe in what they are doing.
