Tweedle Dee Dee
By Charlotte Voake
This book is an illustrated song about a bird’s nest in a tree. It could be a fun way to get kids excited about singing. The teacher could read through the book once with the kids, speaking rhythmically. Then they could sing it, and then they could help the kids learn the song. This is a good way to learn pattern recognition. The phrase “and the green leaves grew around, around, around, and the green leaves grew around,” could be treated sort of like a chorus. If students have trouble keeping up with the rest of the words, they can at least sing that part really confidently. The back of the book has the words of the book written out with piano music, so the teacher can accompany the song.
