12 Days of Christmas by Rachel Isadora is picture book with the text of the 12 days of Christmas, but all the illustrations are inspired by different traditions from various countries within Africa. The text is very simple and well known, so it is a relatively easy read, which I think would be suitable for kindergarten to 3rd grade in terms of reading level. Although the reading is very easy, the pictures are very colorful and captivating. I think that this could be a good reading for a general music class if the teacher were to do a unit of African instruments. There is an explanation in the back of the book that talks about the region and tradition that each illustration is inspired by, so at the end, if you review the book, you can talk about each country and tradition as well. It is a quick read, so I think that there would be time to review the book more than once.
