 The Sounds of Music by L.C. Casterline is a lovely children's book that discusses the different musical genres, instruments and how musicians use them to make music. It talks about how music is found in every corner of the world. The main them is how music makes you feel. It can make you feel happy, sad, angry, etc. The book has amazing illustrations to go with very the theme it's talking about. It can make you want to sing, dance, or perform. I think this is a great book to teach children about other cultures and how to see the world from different points of view. The book talks about genres and instruments from all over the world that children might not recognize but also has genres and instruments they'll know so that they can connect with the book. I would recommend this book for grades first through third when students are just starting to learn about music.
