Cesar Mendoza - Jazzmatazz!!

Image result for jazzmatazz stephanieJazzmatazz, by Stephanie Calmenson and illustrated by Bruce Degen, is a children's book centered on jazz. This book could be introduced to a class of kindergarteners thorough 2nd graders. The book begins in a home in the winter. The cold weather forces a mouse to sneak in the house. The mouse is very musical and makes his way to the piano and plays a melody that captivates the attention of everybody in the house. The music the mouse is playing is jazz. More animals begin to join. The dog plays the drums, the cat plays the fiddle, the bluebird sings his song, and the fish dances! All of this gets the family of the house dancing to the jazz music. This is a good book to introduce young children to syllabic sounds and to introduce them to different common animals. The book is catchy as it rhymes. It is a good vehicle to teach and improve childrens' literacy.
