Musical Instruments: Woodwind
Wendy Lynch
What I like about this book is that it does much more than
give a basic knowledge of woodwind instruments. It goes into detail about what
kinds of ensembles they perform in, some of the history of this large family of
instruments, and goes into great detail about the recorder especially. This
book would tie in greatly to a general music curriculum due to the recorder
units that almost every general music class teaches. It does a good job of
showing the different types of recorders, and that information is easily
transferrable to other musical aspects. It uses the recorder as a model of how
to make pitches on all of the woodwind instruments, and they show the direct
correlation that is useful in teaching all of this.
