“Tubas” by Bob Temple is an informational book that provides
information on general information about the tuba and other brass instruments, history
of the tuba, makeup of the tuba, how to play the tuba, and what context the
tubas are found in. This book is a great introduction into tuba playing. The
language is very simple, and key vocabulary terms are highlighted throughout
with photographs and diagrams that relate to the terms. Throughout this book
there is a lot of comparing and contrasting the tuba to other instruments which
gives great insight on how the tuba is unique. This book is useful in a music
classroom because it simplifies difficult concepts about brass instruments in a
way that children can understand. There are a lot of photographs and vocabulary
words that relate to each other to help students understand the purpose,
history, and techniques of the tuba, which is a crucial component of most
ensembles.
