I See a Song by Eric Carle is a more unusual story book because it has very few words and no story. In the beginning of the book, it combines senses with words that aren't usually matched, like seeing songs, painting music, and hearing color. The book is then followed by many beautifully colored pictures of things like sunsets, water drops, oceans, and people, and all are very abstract. The point of the book, in my opinion, is to see that music can be anywhere and represented in any form. To get the full message, students would need a previous background in music, or just know how different kinds of music sounds, and think about how the colors and shapes have an impact on what they might hear if the pictures were turned into sound.
