"Let it Shine" is a book was written and illustrated by Ashley Bryan. It gives illustrations to three different spiritual songs as well as the lyrics to each of these songs. The author also includes some of the sheet music to each of the songs in the back of the book along with all of the words so the readers can feel free to sing or play along. These illustrations are very unique and fit along with the lyrics. I like this book despite how simple it may be. I can use this book to educate students on songs they might have heard but didn't know the words to or the name of or songs that maybe my students are hearing for the very first time. Although I am going to be an instrumental music educator, I think learning basic, common songs like this and singing along to them is a fun activity and singing can help any student improve their aural skills, especially if they are reading the music that is in the back of the book and singing that way.
